By downloading or using HiveLab, you agree to these terms. They are meant to be simple and fair.

The app

HiveLab is an educational app that presents a model of one honeybee colony's year for iPhone and iPad. It is provided for your personal, non-commercial learning and enjoyment.

Licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use HiveLab on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute, or sell the app or its content, except as allowed by law.

Purchases

Any in-app purchase in HiveLab is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and is eligible for Family Sharing. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Payments, refunds, and billing are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Refund requests are managed by Apple, not by us.

Educational content

The biology in HiveLab follows the standard literature on honeybee colonies, and the figures are rounded for readability. What you see is a model: a simulated colony, generated from a small number of coupled variables, not a record of any particular hive. Real colonies vary enormously with their queen, their year and their luck.

The app is intended for general education. It is not advice for keeping bees, and it must not be used to make decisions about the care, treatment, or management of living colonies. We make no warranty that any figure is exact.

Acceptable use

Please use HiveLab lawfully. Nothing in the app asks you to interact with real bees, and it should not be taken as encouragement to approach a colony.

Intellectual property

The HiveLab name, design, artwork, text, and software are owned by the app's creator. The underlying biology is, of course, nobody's property.

Disclaimer of warranty

HiveLab is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the creator of HiveLab will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the app.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always posted on this page with the date above. Continuing to use the app after changes means you accept the updated terms.
